Remove perhaps

King Zedekiah sent Pashhur and Zephaniah to Jeremiah with this message, “Please inquire of the Lord for us, because Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon is attacking us. Perhaps the Lord will deal with us according to all His wonderful works that the king may go away from us,” (Jeremiah 21: 1-2). Judah had been under siege before and Jeremiah had warned the kings to turn to God in repentance and obedience, if they wanted His deliverance. Jeremiah’s words had fallen on hearing impaired ears. That is, ears which had made a conscious decision to block out the voice of God. Now, however, in a time of immediate crisis, the king recognised that he was in a bad position and that nothing except divine intervention would be able to save him and his people. There will be times in our lives, when the problems that we thought were behind us come back to bite us. What do you do, when you realise that you have no chance of finding a solution by yourself? If you are like Zedekiah, you may recall hearing about the wonderful things that the Lord did for His people in the past. Therefore, as He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13: 8), why not ask Him to perform a miracle in your circumstances today? Zedekiah’s request did not stem from faith because he inserted an element of doubt with one word – perhaps. The apostle James says, “When you ask …be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord,” (James 1: 6-7). What is your situation today? Could you use a miracle? Do you remember the wonderful works of God in the lives of other people? Are you asking God to perform His wonderful works again, while you approach Him with “perhaps” on your lips and in your heart? Do you want to experience God’s promises? You can experience His wonderful works because of His grace and mercy. However, you have to remove “perhaps” from your prayer vocabulary. We experience God’s promises, when we believe without doubting because He is faithful to His word.
