Be His mouthpiece

Jeremiah wanted to let God know exactly how he was feeling. Jeremiah said that he had kept himself separate from people who made light of spiritual matters. Jeremiah revealed the depth of his personal pain, as he said to the Lord, “I sat alone because of Your hand, for You have filled me with indignation. Why is my pain perpetual? Will You surely be to me like an unreliable stream, as waters that fail?” The Lord reassured Jeremiah with these words, “If you return to Me, then I will bring you back. You shall stand before Me; if you take out the precious from the vile, you shall be as My mouth,” (Jeremiah 15: 17-19). Have you found that being a kingdom citizen is a lonely state? People may say that you are boring and that you lack a sense of humour because you do not find their insensitive jokes amusing. People may not invite you to work functions because you sit there not joining in the “fun”. Jeremiah felt excluded from his people, when he wanted to have a sense of belonging. Jeremiah blamed God for his situation and challenged Him to prove that He was indeed the One who would supply living water to Jeremiah’s thirsty soul, as opposed to providing waters that fail. God’s response is interesting. He does not rebuke Jeremiah for voicing his frustration. Instead, God invites Jeremiah to return to Him. Jeremiah had spent so much time telling the people of Judah to return to the Lord, now it was his time to examine himself and learn that he had his own returning to do. God is saying to angry and demoralised kingdom citizens that we need to return to Him. Sometimes, we may not realise how harsh or judgemental we sound when we are telling others about God. Therefore, the Lord had to tell Jeremiah to clean up his language. Do you have a nasty tongue? Do you call it “telling it like it is”? God calls it vile. There was hope for Jeremiah and there is hope for you too. If you return to God, He will restore you. The promise for you is the one God gave to Moses,”I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say,” (Exodus 4: 12).

  1. As God’s mouthpiece he will put the right words in our mouths whatever we need to say to others.
