His rightful due

To whom then will you liken Me or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One (Isaiah 40: 25). The prophet Jeremiah acknowledges the greatness of God, when he says, “Inasmuch as there is none like You, oh Lord; You are great, and Your Name is great in might, who would not fear You, oh King of the nations? For this is Your rightful due. For among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like You,” (Jeremiah 10: 6-7). Jeremiah makes an important point, given the awesome Majesty and greatness of God, who would not fear Him. There are some people, who do not share Jeremiah’s view. The Pharaoh was one such person. When Moses and Aaron arrived at the palace to inform the Pharaoh that the Lord had commanded him to let the people of God go into the wilderness to worship Him, Pharaoh was not interested. He replied, “Who is the Lord that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the Lord,” (Exodus 5: 2). Pharaoh was speaking from what he perceived as a position of strength. He asked Moses and Aaron to show a miracle to prove that they were on a mission from God. When Aaron threw down the rod and it became a snake that should have made a big impression on the Pharaoh. However, Pharaoh was into one-upmanship and he called in his people to do their thing and reproduce the miracles that Moses and Aaron performed through the power of God. However, their attempts were unsuccessful. Even when Aaron’s rod swallowed up the rods of the magicians, Pharaoh would not concede defeat. He got his magicians to try to copy other miracles. Why would Pharaoh waste his time? Without the power of God, a piece of stick in the hands of Aaron remained a stick. When touched by the power of God, the stick became an instrument proving that God was with Moses and Aaron. The Pharaohs of this world often try to intimidate kingdom citizens with their refusal to acknowledge who our God is. God can use the smallest things to let everyone know that there is none like Him. Wise people worship Him, for this is His rightful due.
